The aquarium in Barcelona is a bit of a highlight for children. They will be fascinated with the many types of fish, the sharks, and the 80 meter tunnel that goes under water!
The negatives:
However, the aquarium is a bit on the expensive side, and if this is your first visit to Barcelona, there are other, more interesting sights to see.

What is there
to see?
At the port of Barcelona, you’ll find the aquarium. Can you smell the salty air of the sea? Then you’re right where you want to be – get ready to head down into the aquarium!
You’ll find all kinds of fish here. There are several separate sections, which start off with species of fish specific to certain regions of the world. Afterwards, you move on to the tropics – apart from sharks and various kinds of rays and skates, you can see clown fish (Nemo) and Atlantic blue tang surgeonfish (Dory), both of which your kids will absolutely love!
The tour’s high point is the see-through tunnel, which measures 80 meters in length and goes underwater – you can see sharks, moray eels, and other fish, swimming along in peaceful coexistence in an environment based on their natural surroundings.
In total, there are more than 450 species of fish to see here – 11,000 individual fish!
Towards the exit, there are special activities for children. In the “Bathyscaphe” (a kind of submarine) you can see how the submarine equipment works and in the “Explora” area you can explore the coastal area of the Costa Brava and the Ebro Delta.

RECOMMENDATION
When I visited the aquarium, there was an incredibly long line at the ticket booth. I was lucky and had gotten myself an online ticket beforehand, so I could go right inside.
If you would rather not put yourself and your children through the waiting period, I would recommend an Online-Ticket.
They are available on short notice, too: I had mine on my cell phone, and I was permitted to enter right away.

figures
The aquarium in Barcelona is unique in Europe.
It not only has the longest underwater tunnel of 80 meters, but also the “Oceanarium” that you walk through is the largest in Europe. It has a diameter of 36 meters and is 5 meters deep. It therefore holds 4 million liters of water! In comparison: the Paris aquarium holds “only” 3 million liters.
In total you will find 450 different types of fish in this aquarium and 11,000 fish in total in 21 aquariums!
