Casa del Guarda

Casa del Guarda

(at Park Güell)

Park Güell
Casa del Guarda at the Park Güell

My rating: 3 stars

+ A cute little house near the Park Güell main entrance.

- There’s not exactly a whole lot to see apart from a few films on the park’s history.

Note: You might as well visit the Casa del Guarda – after all, admission to the house is now included in the price of admission to the park.

And what's there to see?

As part of the Park Güell plans, Gaudí also considered some of the more practical aspects. The entrance to the garden city would, of course, have to be guarded, and any guard would need a house to live in, too. As a result, Gaudí designed this neat little house near the entrance. The Casa del Guarda was built between 1901 and 1903 and represents the two principles of simplicity and utility.

Nowadays, the Casa del Guarda is used as a museum, offering background information on the Park Güell. A presentation on Gaudí’s and Güell’s lives lets you get to know the main protagonists of the project. Films and photographs show the park’s creation from 1895 to 1914.
